About the Event

The Advisor Symposium is a four-hour continuing education event specifically designed for practicing attorneys, CPAs and financial service professionals. This year’s event features attorneys John McManus and Jeff Chadwick, along with New York Life Corporate Vice Presidents Matt Pate and Greg Holmgren.

The Symposium is intended to offer ICE, CLE and CPE credit to attendees. State approvals and hours vary.

Please note, for insurance professionals, to receive continuing education credit in most states you must attend the event in the state where you hold your resident insurance license. Please see the information on the bottom of the "Continuing Education Approvals by State" for more information.

If you register to attend after noon Eastern on Friday, October 11, you will not receive a printed copy of the Resource Guide. Please download an electronic copy or print a copy to bring with you to the Advisor Symposium.

John O. McManus, Founding Principal

McManus & Associates

John O. McManus is the Founding Principal of McManus & Associates, which was established in 1991 with the purpose of representing individuals and families around the country and the globe who, through diligence and commitment, have achieved success in many aspects of their lives. John participated in several estate planning and bar associations including a board membership on the Northern New Jersey Estate Planning Council. John is also a member of the prestigious Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and the European American Chamber of Commerce in New York. After 10 years of receiving Martindale Hubbell’s highest rating (AV) as a practicing attorney, he was named to the National Bar of Preeminent Lawyers. John was also named by Avenue Magazine as one of the top trusts and estates attorneys in the New York City area and is regularly quoted in such well-known publications as the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Forbes and Trusts & Estates magazine. He is admitted to practice law in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut and the firm is also licensed to practice in Florida.

Jeff Chadwick, JD

Wealth Preservation Practice Group, Winstead PC

Jeff Chadwick is a member of the Wealth Preservation Practice Group with offices in Houston and The Woodlands, Texas. Jeff focuses his practice on trust and estate planning for business owners, corporate executives, professional athletes, and other high net worth individuals and families. He strives to provide innovative and practical solutions to a wide range of legal matters, including wealth transfer planning, trust and estate administration, business formation and succession, asset protection, charitable giving, and premarital planning. Jeff is Board Certified in Estate Planning and Probate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is a frequent speaker at estate planning seminars around the country and is an active member of many professional organizations. He also serves on the Texas Trust Code Committee, where he monitors trust issues in Texas and drafts legislation for inclusion in the Texas Trust Code. Before settling in Texas, Jeff began his career in Richmond, Virginia. Jeff has maintained his Virginia law license and regularly counsels clients transitioning from Virginia to Texas, or vice versa, with regard to their estate planning matters.

R. Matt Pate, JD, LL.M.

The Nautilus Group

Matthew joined The Nautilus Group® in 2004 after receiving his Masters in Law in Taxation from SMU’s Dedman School of Law. He is currently the head of the special case unit, which provides Nautilus Members with highly customized client presentations and research and brainstorming support for tax, legal and sales related questions, as well as competition support, executive benefits planning, and custom spreadsheets and analytics. Matt received his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University, obtaining a major in three subjects—accounting, finance and international business. He graduated from the University of Texas School of Law in 2001, where he served as Executive Editor of the Texas Review of Law and Politics. While in college and law school, Matt worked for a DC accounting firm, and held clerkships with a large Dallas law firm and the Texas Office of the Attorney General.

Greg Holmgren, CLU®, ChFC®

Corporate Vice President, New York Life Insurance Company

Greg Holmgren is the Advanced Agent Development Officer for New York Life. He leads a team that works with top agents, their clients, and their clients’ advisors to enable those clients to achieve their specific financial goals and solve related obstacles. He speaks to groups around the country about financial strategies and key planning issues that impact their lives. With more than 33 years of insurance industry experience, 30 of which have been in the employ of New York Life, he brings a wealth of applicable knowledge to every situation. Greg holds a bachelor of arts degree from Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois.

Heather L. Davis, JD, CLU®, ChFC®, CAP®, AEP®

Corporate Vice President, New York Life Insurance Company

Heather is the head of marketing for The Nautilus Group® and oversees the Center of Influence initiative for New York Life, where she serves as executive director and host of the Advisor Symposium and the Advisor Webinar series. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Nebraska where she received both her bachelor of arts and Juris Doctor degrees. Heather earned her CLU®, ChFC® and CAP® designations from The American College and is past-president of the college’s Alumni Association. She holds her Series 6 and 63 licenses with NYLIFE Securities LLC and is a member of the Nebraska (inactive) and Texas State Bar Associations. Heather also holds her AEP designation from the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils. She has been with New York Life since 1999.
